Social Security understands public concerns raised about our Interactive PEBES test, which allowed you to both request and view your PEBES statement online. We have suspended Interactive PEBES in order to begin a rigorous evaluation of the system's security features. We want to have a PEBES process that is not only secure but has the full support and confidence of the American people.

Public input in this evaluation is crucial, and to provide an opportunity for public comment, we conducted a series of national forums allowing us to hear from experts in the areas of privacy and computer security, as well as members of the public. The public forums ended on June 16 and and the full report was released on September 4, 1997. You can still request your PEBES using our "PEBES By Mail" form, but your PEBES will be mailed to you and delivered by the U.S. Postal Service in about three to four weeks.
